An Abuja court has handed a 2-month prison sentence to a 26-year-old female student for stealing an iPad at a nightclub in Wuse, Abuja.According to a Punch report, the convict, Mariam Nuhu, was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to the one count charge of theft, punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code.
Handing out the sentence, the Presiding Officer of the Senior Magistrate court, Wuse Zone 2, Mrs. Ramatu Gulma said, the accused failed to show why she should not be convicted.
"I, therefore, convict her for the offence of theft,” Gulma was quoted as saying.
The convict was given an option of fine.
Student Pulse learnt that Nuhu stole the iPad on the 2th of June at a nightclub.
She confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency, explaining that she stole the device after she was disappointed by a man who picked her at the club but failed to pay the N20,000 he promised her.
Nuhu also said she attempted to return the item to the owner.
“I got angry by his actions and stole the Ipad. I called his number after two days to return the Ipad but he did not pick the call.
