President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated a new 64-page international travel passport on Wednesday morning before the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting inside the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The new e-passport according to the President gives frequent travelers more pages for visas having been increased from 32 to 64 pages.
Frequent travelers often request new passports because of the limited number of pages for visas and border control stamps. The passport will be available to frequent travellers and businessmen for N20, 000 from Friday, August 01, 2014.
Two security guards have reportedly been 'sacked' yesterday from the Commonwealth Games for taking selfies with Usain Bolt while he was training. It was reported that the two men approached the Jamaican fastest runner Usain Bolt and asked to take photo with him.
They were then 'punted' or sacked by a supervisor who had asked them to put their mobile phones away while the Jamaican sprinter was training.
The athlete was using the track to prepare for the 4x100m relay which takes place at Hampden Park tomorrow night. Officials are now said to have told staff at the games to be professional and not approach athletes for 'selfies'.

The community stated that 10 parents out of the 122 that took part in the meeting with Jonathan did
not receive any money.

Sierra Leone has declared a state of public emergency to tackle the worst ever outbreak of Ebola and will call in security forces to quarantine epicentres of the deadly virus, President Ernest Bai Koroma said in a statement.
The measures resembled a tough anti-Ebola package announced by neighbouring Liberia on Wednesday evening. Koroma announced he was cancelling a visit to Washington for a U.S.-Africa summit next week because of the crisis and would instead hold an emergency meeting with regional leaders in Guinea on Friday.

An American doctor who contracted Ebola virus while working in Liberia is showing slight signs of improvement, according to reports.
Dr Kent Brantly remains in a serious condition while he undergoes intensive treatment at an isolation centre, the Samaritan’s Purse charity reports.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that it has started temperature screening passengers arriving from places at risk from Ebola and has suspended Asky Airline because it brought the first case to Lagos.
“Screening and monitoring is being done at all major international airports. It entails checking passengers’ temperatures with a hand-held machine,” NCAA spokesman Sam Adurogboye, then added that a compulsory blood test would follow if the passenger’s temperature gave cause for concern.
The International Airlines Association (IATA) said that WHO has not yet recommended any travel restrictions or border closures due to the outbreak, and added that there will be a low risk
to other passengers if an Ebola patient flew.

BENIN— THE Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday, declared the seat of the member representing Etsako West Constituency I, Mr. Abdulrazak Momoh, vacant for defecting to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Speaker, Mr. Uyi Igbe, during plenary of the APC lawmakers at the Old Assembly complex in Government House, Benin, said the lawmaker’s defection did not follow due process.
He said Session 109 (1g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, empowers the Speaker to declare the seat of a lawmaker, upon defection to another party from the party he was elected, vacant.

Lagos Police have arrested 28-year-old Raphael Effiong, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death on Tuesday, 29July, during the course of a fight in a hotel in Alapere, Ketu, Lagos state.

A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, who resides on Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos is now battling for life after his scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.
According to reports, Yinka was attacked while sleeping in his room with his family members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola, the children of the landlady.
She said, “On Thursday morning, around 3am, while we were sleeping, we heard loud bangs on our door. We initially thought they were armed robbers because the house beside ours had recently been robbed.
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) on Thursday said it generated more than N120 billion from taxation between January and June this year.
The Executive Chairman of the service, Mr Tunde Fowler, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that 90 per cent of the taxes were generated from the organised private sector and civil servants.
Fowler said that the remaining 10 per cent came from the informal sector, mostly market women, artisans, commercial drivers and taxable individuals in the state.
He said the state had relied on the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to implement its budget following the dwindling statutory allocations.

The music video lacked good interpretation and anticipation, we expected more but we got less from the music video. In fact I prefer the audio than watching the music video. Charles Novia tweeted his opinion about the music video and looks like Don Jazzy read it and took points of his critic...

The news booming right now is that the recent MBGN 2014, might be lying about her age. The whole suspicion started after she posted a throw back photo(above) on her IG page. Security operatives in Cameroon have rescued wife of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali who was kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect on Sunday along with a traditional ruler of Kolofata town, reports BBC Hausa Service.
The reports say that 16 people lost their lives in the rescue operations, although Cameroon information minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said government was still investigating the matter to ascertain the actual number of people killed.
Inspector Sunday Mefo, a police officer attached to the Patrol and Guard (P&G) Unit at the Aba Central Police Station (CPS) in Abia State, allegedly shot himself dead accidentally on Sunday, July 27.
According to Daily Sun report, the incident occurred at about 10p.m. as Mefo tried to check the working condition of the an AK 47 rifle, which he was to use for night duty.
Sources claimed that he had allegedly pulled the trigger of the gun and in the process, one of the bullets in the cache accidentally went off and hit him in the leg.
Mefo was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.
Unfortunately, he died yesterday morning.
Nigerians have been advised to be calm and not panic over the reported case of Ebola Virus in Lagos State, with an assurance that no Nigerian is infected with the virus. Addressing a joint Ministerial Press briefing of the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Federal Ministry of Health on development concerning the disease on Monday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, affirmed that there had only been one case of imported Ebola resulting in the death of a Liberian diplomat in Lagos.
He emphasised that health authorities were being very proactive about the detection of the Ebola Virus in the Liberian, who was on his way to Calabar for a conference, by ensuring that all contacts were being actively followed.

Two female suicide bombers blew themselves off and killed three people, injured seven people and two policemen at separate bomb blasts in Kano yesterday.
Kano Police Commissioner, Aljaji Adenrele Shinaba, confirmed that a female wearing explosives detonated it at Hotoro NNPC mega filling station which killed three people and injured seven others.
He added that the incident occurred when innocent citizens queued up to purchase kerosene.
Alhaji Shinaba also confirmed that a 19-year-old girl suicide bomber blew herself up and injured two policemen at the entrance of the multi-billion naira Ado Bayero Mall near Kano Trade Fair ground in metropolitan Kano.
Barely two weeks after the impeachment of Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako and the sack notice given to Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura a week ago, both of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), their colleague in Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is being threatened to be removed by the state lawmakers.
In Al-Makura’s case, the House of Assembly has asked the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman U. Dikko to raise a seven-member panel to investigate alleged allegations of misconduct against him, he did that at the weekend.
In Imo State also at the weekend, there was tension as members of the Assembly vowed to commence impeachment proceedings against Owelle Okorocha for allegedly withholding their entitlements since he became governor in 2011.
Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has said that no fewer than 105,000 candidates applied to the University of Ilorin in 2014 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.
He stated that, unfortunately, Unilorin had the capacity to only admit 9,000 of the 105,000 candidates.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, he stated that Unilorin was the most sought-after university in Nigeria for admission by candidates. According to him, coming after it is the University of Benin, Edo State.
He claimed that Unilorin was best sought-after university for admission because of the institution’s stable academic calendar and quality academic standard.
