Calabar-- 4 Die As Cult Groups Clash

A reported clash between the Vikings Confraternity and the KK group in the last 2 days has left 4 people dead following a shootout between both cult groups.
Among those killed was a 40-year old
chief from Efut Esighi kingdom in Bakassi local government area who was identified simply as Etim who was said to be having his bath in his residence at Nqu street close to the palace of the Obong of Calabar.

According to Andem Ekpeyong Effiom, an eye witness who described the incident said Etim was trailed from Bakassi on Thursday, August 21, 2014 before he was killed around 7pm on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Effiom added that the shooting has been recurrent over the past few days causing residents to either flee the area or lock themselves indoors.
Vanguard reports:

  • “Although there has been rival cult clashes in the neighbourhood between dreaded Vikings and KK boys who were extorting money from commercial motorcyclists in the area, forcing people in this area to live in fear, yet we suspect that assassins or cult boys were sent after those killed including the Efut chief”.

“Yesterday night’s shooting was particularly scary. The gunmen began to shoot at about 7.30pm and did not stop until about 10pm”, he said.
An official in the Obong’s palace who craved anonymity said the shooting has caused panic but that the Etuboms’ council was believed to have contacted the police.
