The Boko Haram attacks in several parts of the North east state of
Borno seems to have intensified with another major assault on an army
barrack today.
Three loud explosions and heavy gunfights were said to have been
heard emanating from the barracks popularly known as Giwa Barracks right
in the heart of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
It is not clear the casualty figure of this recent attack – if there
are any – but reports say members of the militant Islamic sect continue
to lay siege on the barrack with soldiers wearing bulletproof vests
getting in positions to repel the attack.
The location of the assault is in relatively close proximity from the
State Government House. Gunfight is said to be intense in the area.
