The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says it will now prosecute
anyone caught with fake driver’s license in the court of law.
Speaking at a press conference preceding its annual lecture, the Corp Marshal/CEO, Mr Osita Chidoka, stated categorically that offenders will be charged for possession of fake documents; in addition to that, they will have their vehicles impounded.“Let me tell motorists that anybody we arrest with a fake driver’s license, we are sending straight to court,” he said.
Speaking further, he explained that, “We are impounding that vehicle because you are not authorized to drive on Nigerian roads and we will not only stop at license violation but will also ask the Police to include criminal charges of possession of fake identity document.”
He appealed to those intending to obtain the driver’s license not to apply by proxy but go through the normal process which might appear cumbersome due to network issues which often crops up during online transactions.
“This cumbersome experience can be attributed to our desire to ensure the integrity of the process and I crave the indulgence of Nigerians to appreciate that is an enormous responsibility, we are trying to make it as easy as possible but we also do not want to compromise on the integrity of the product (document),’’ he explained.
The Corps Marshal went ahead to disclose that the FRSC generated more than N4 billion through fines from road traffic offences. He also appealed to motorists to always abide by traffic rules and regulations
