How We Defeated Nigeria – France Coach
France coach, Didier Deschamps has revealed how his team defeated Nigeria in today's match which ended in 2-0.
Didier Deschamps speaking at the post match inside the Estadio Nacional Stadium in Brasilia said that upon noticing that the Super Eagles were very physical, he employed a strategy by allowing them use up their energy and when they got very tired, his boys waited until the last 15 minutes wrapped up the game.
Deschamps said he had to manage Nigeria’s physical play for an hour because he knew the Eagles would burn out and start making mistakes or commit errors.
He said: “Nigeria played a very physical game and had a real presence across the pitch. It was a challenge to go up against that, but we managed it. For an hour, the teams were pretty even, but then we were able to get the upper hand in the last half an hour.
“The Nigerians were tired, and they started leaving gaps in their defence.”
“We were dynamic and quick when it mattered, while Nigeria were slowing down.”
“This deserved win will make us even stronger for the rest of the competition. I’m very proud to have reached the quarter-finals,” the European coach stated.
Stephen Keshi despite Super eagles loss, told BBC after the match that he had no regrets saying: “It’s a pity that we lost, It was an important match, I don’t think we deserved to lose but that’s football.”
“We have shown we can compete at a high level, everyone saw it and I have no regrets.
Meanwhile Stephen Keshi has confirmed his resignation as coach of the super eagles saying: "I have to go back to my family and face fresh challenges."
Keshi wasn't the only one to quit Super eagles as the team's captain, Joseph Yobo also announced he was quiting saying: "I think I should give the younger ones the opportunity to forge ahead. I have nothing new to offer."
