Scammers are becoming cleverer nowadays. Now it is not always inattentive people who get conned. Even very smart ones can be deceived.

What are the signs of job scams any Nigerian should know?

1. Small amount of details
Real job sites provide a lot of information about themselves and the actual job. The skills needed and the title should be mentioned. If job requirements are too short – you should think twice – because it could be fake.
2. High salary and too low efforts
It is very suspicious when a lot of money is promised for easy work with flexible schedule. As a proverb says, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
3. Google it
Before applying on a web site, try to search for some information about the vacancy and this company in particular. Lurk in the forums and social media. If somebody was fooled at such site they will be complaining that they were scammed.
4. Save your cash
Real jobs don’t ask you to pay. Really. They should pay you. So if you came across at some websites and messages that promise to make you rich, you can easily be fooled. The only exception – some job search sites, which can charge for membership to gain more options.
5. They want too much info from you
If you are asked to give your identification number or a credit card for job application – it is surely a scam. You can lose your money or become a target of identity theft.
6. Unknown email
If you are communicating with a HR-manager of some company, they should have email address coming from the company`s domain name. Real human resources managers of big companies don’t use Gmail, Yahoo or AT&T emails.
7. Rude Talks
If messages are too emotional and full of errors and exclamation marks it is likely to be a scam too.
The bad news is that there are 60 scams for every one real legitimate job. Nigeria Police Force constantly informs about investigated cases of such frauds and urges you to be careful. Ignore all suspicious messages and websites.
