Mistaken Identity: University lecturer Shoot By Unknown Gunmen in Anambra

  In a case of mistaken identity, Mr Reuben Ikwu, an Engineering lecturer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), was reportedly attacked and shot by three unknown gunmen on Sunday, 24 August.
The gunmen had mistakened Ikwu for a Lagos-based businessman who was on a visit to Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The gunmen had trailed the Lagos-based businessman’s driver back home to the entrance of the house, where he was playing host to the late Ikwu.

An eyewitness, Ferdinad, told journalists that when the gunmen shot and killed his guest, policemen, who were escorts of the businessman took cover, returned fire and shot two of the gunmen dead, while the third person, was severely wounded but still managed to escape in a Sport Utility Vehicle.
The Anambra Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Uche Ezeh, confirmed the incident, saying that investigations revealed that the gunmen were kidnappers, as some criminals in police custody identified one
of the gang members as their leader.
