Tension mounts in Benue State as heavy explosion rocked the new bridge in Makurdi, Benue , which links the Northern part of the nation to the southern part, on June 17, 2014, Tuesday, around 3pm.
According to a report, the explosion was caused following a collision between a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit and a Peugeot 406.
A local resident confirmed that the reason of the blast was vehicles accident, lamented over horrible gridlock and possible casualties.
Security operatives have organized diversion of traffic from the ever-busy new bridge to the old bridge, Northbank, Makurdi. The information on the number of victims was not available at the time of filing the present report.
The affected bridge is crucial in linking travelers across the River Benue.
