TRAGEDY: Prominent Politician Assassinated In His Home

Chief Albert Ukpanah an Ex-officio member of the State Executive Council of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom was assassinated in his home last Wednesday, 13th of March 2014.

Ukpanah was shot in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state while preparing to host a political meeting in preparation for 2015 general elections.
It was gathered that he was watching a football match withhis son when he got a telephone call. The caller was
said to have informed him that he and some other people were on their way to his house for an important meeting. He then instructed his son to open the gate for them and serve them with refreshments. After the son was done serving the refreshments, he left the visitors with his father.
When he returned later to check on his father and his visitors, he was surprised to find his father in a pool of blood and the visitors were nowhere to be found.
There have been speculations that his death may not be unconnected with the political ambition of Gov. Godswill Akpabio to become the next Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State.
According to reports, the late Chief Ukpanah was a leading voice among those who are against Akpabio’s ambition for the senate seat.
