NDLEA Goes Tough On Drug Peddlers


 The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr. Sule Momodu has began a house-to-house,stop and search brigade raid on drug peddlers.

Joined by the Drug Enforcement Operation team in the state, the commandant is of the opinion that fighting drug peddling is the beginning of fighting crime. The exercise which took the team to Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, revealed an amazing flash point of all forms of drug related criminal activities in Anambra. Four suspects were arrested with several kilograms of Indian hemp recovered from the location.



Recent investigations have  shown that  drug peddling, including cocaine sale, has been on the increase in Obosi, an urban area in Anambra State,which made the fight against drug trafficking and consumption to the place, necessary.

Several kilograms of Indian Hemp were also recovered from hide-outs in Odaraba village in Obosi which habours a lot of female suspects.Reacting to the development, the Commander said that serious attention should be paid to arresting drug traffickers as drug stimulates crime. He attributed the success of the exercise in apprehending the traffickers to proper strategic planning, adding that the arrested suspects would be prosecuted.

The suspects have been taken to Onitsha where they were handed over to the Police for onward prosecution. According to records, in 2014 alone, 25 suspects have been convicted and sentenced to varying jail terms while over 40 cases are at various stages in the Federal High Court.It would be recalled that recently, several Nigerian celebrities were honoured by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) by being nominated as its ambassadors in order to efficiently make known the ideals of the Agency to all corners of the nation.
