The 38-year-old, simply identified as Victor, was killed after stepping on the wire near the hospital’s blood bank.
He was said to have gone to the hospital to pay a visit to a new mother and it was while searching for the maternity ward that he was killed.
Daily Independent reports:
A source which preferred anonymity told Daily Independent that the deceased was on his way to Lagos from Port Harcourt when he heard that his elder brother’s wife had delivered a baby boy, so he decided to pay a visit to the mother and baby before proceeding on his journey.
The source added that it was during the process of searching for the maternity ward that he stepped on the naked wire which eventually electrocuted him.
Efforts made by his friend who was with him to get the attention of doctors and nurses
were unsuccessful.
He was later confirmed dead at the accident and emergency ward of the hospital.
His body was later abandoned by his family for management of the hospital to take care of. A nurse who does not want her name mentioned told Daily Independent, that she had earlier complained of the naked wire.
“I told them that the naked wire will kill somebody one day but they did not listen to me, even when I tried to write, I was advised not to write by a medical expert”, she added.
Efforts made to reach the Medical Director of Warri Central Hospital for comments proved abortive as he was said not to be available.
