The 10 Best-Dressed Men at the 86th Annual Academy Awards

1. Bradley Cooper, in Tom Ford

In case you were wondering, this is what a movie star looks like in 2014

2. Michael Fassbender, in Tom Ford

Fassbender brings Old Hollywood glamour back to the future with his shawl collar Tom Ford look. Contrasted with the actor’s trim but scruffy beard, Fassbender’s look is the right mix of rakish tailoring and rugged grooming that feels fresh

3. Zac Efron, in Calvin Klein Collection and Johnston & Murphy shoes

Here at GQHQ, we have a strong opinion that black tie dressing calls for a bow tie. We’re also happy to recognize and exception to the rule, and in Efron’s case, the young actor’s razor sharp silk tie didn’t take away from his outfit’s elegance, but turned it into one of the most modern menswear rigs to walk the red carpet.

4. John Legend

It’s not easy to hold your own on a red carpet stacked with the biggest movies stars in the world, but Legend knows that sticking with the classics always kills. His one-button, low stance tuxedo fit like a glove and the added touch of a lapel pin put the singer ahead of plenty of actors on Hollywood’s biggest night.

5.Ethan Hawke, in Dior Homme

In this Dior Homme skinny shawl collar, tuxedo the actor steals the spotlight from guys half his age on the red carpet.

6.Chiwetel Ejiofor, in Christian Louboutin shoes

When you’re in a black tuxedo, standing out on the Oscars red carpet comes down to the details. What set Ejiofor’s look apart from the rest of the penguin pack were his slim peak lapels. Paired with his sharp, angular bow tie, the look was the epitome of modern eveningwear.

7. Jared Leto, in Saint Laurent with Harry Winston studs and a Piaget watch

A white dinner jacket is a welcome change from the standard Oscar tux but Leto went a step further to stand out with that red silk bow tie and crystal encrusted studs. They were red carpet risks for sure, but ones that paid off because Leto aced the fit and proportion of everything else in his Saint Laurent rig.

8. Kevin Spacey, in Burberry

Frank Underwood’s idea of a power move might mean undermining the leader of the free world, but Spacey knows that on the Oscar red carpet, it’s as simple as springing for a heightened blue tux.

9. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in Calvin Klein Collection and Johnston & Murphy shoes

Gordon-Levitt shows you that black doesn’t have to be boring. His charcoal flecked Calvin Klein tuxedo brings a cool contrast to run-of-the-mill formalwear but keeps its elegant edge.

10. Leonardo DiCaprio, in Giorgio Armani

Leo once again turns to Giorgio Armani for his Oscars tux and while the Milanese maestro delivered a sharp-fitting tux that’s equally classic and modern, we’re so proud of DiCaprio for finally keeping that bottom button open
