Nigerians may have to endure the present sufferings being experienced
due to scarcity of petroleum products in major cities of the country.
According to the Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), fuel scarcity may ease as from next week.
The arising shortfall in the supply of the product had triggered a wave of scarcity; a situation many would think should be over now.
As at Monday, long queues were still noticed at several filling stations along Ogba road.
The situation is not different in many parts of Lagos Island.
Due to this scarcity, Lagos roads have been free, while commercial vehicles have been reduced on the road. Even those plying the roads have increased the fare of transportation.
Commuters were seen stranded at various motor parks in the metropolis, with some resulting to trekking long distances. Only few petrol stations were spotted by Nigeriafilms.com selling the product as long lines became evident in the few that sold petrol.
From Ogba to Berger, the price of transportation had increased from the normal N50, to N100. Ogba to Ojota, which used to be N100, is now N150.
The scarcity of fuel has given rise to black market activities, with individuals selling petrol in different sizes of jerry cans at prices higher than the pump price.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has, however, maintained that it had enough quantity of petrol to last Nigeria for months.
