Landlord Son Stabs Tenant Over ''PHCN'' Bill

The police in Obiaruku Community in Delta State have arrested one Sunday Okolie for allegedly stabbing a tenant in his father’s house, following a disagreement over an electricity bill.
According to reports, the tenant was allegedly stabbed by the suspect after he failed, for the umpteenth time, to pay his share of the bill for the sixth month running. A heated argument ensued and, reluctantly, the ugly incident occurred.

The stabbing, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday, caused panic in the community, as the leaders described the incident as “evil”. According to the community’s elders, the aggressor had colluded with his younger brother to assault the victim and allegedly stab him in the stomach.

The police public relations officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of Okolie, disclosed that, in his attempt to escape after allegedly committing the crime, he was nabbed by other tenants who invited the police.

Kalu disclosed that the suspect, who is currently availing the police with information to help them in their investigation, claimed that he had requested payment for the residence’s electricity bill from the tenant, but he (the tenant) declined.

According to Kalu, Okolie added that when the accused presented his own bill, it was discovered that the last time he made a payment was eight months ago, whereas he claimed to have paid for all the months.
Kalu assured that investigations are on and the police will get to the “root of the matter”.
