Borno Senator Raises Alarm Over Boko Haram


Ahmed Zannah, a Senator representing Borno Central in the National Assembly, has revealed that the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram has started massacring teenage and adult males in its quest to expand its caliphate in the North eastern part of the country.
Punch reports that the senator, who raised the alarm on Wednesday, also insisted that the insurgents had taken over Bama, a town less than 78 kilomitres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Zannah, who hails from Bama, made the revelation in synchronisation with Reuters reports that, the terrorist had also seized Bara community in Yobe State.
The lawmaker went ahead to also recount how he lost two of his nephews to the sect’s Monday/Tuesday offensive on Bama.
“As I am speaking to you, Bama has been captured and the insurgents are on the prowl for any male on sight” he said. “Everyone is a target as long as you are a male but for now, women and children are being spared.”
Zannah, while insisting that he was giving the true nature of the happenings in the area challenged the military authorities and the   Borno State Government to take newsmen to Bama and ascertain his claims that the town was captured by insurgents on Tuesday.
“Both the military and Borno State Government are lying to Nigerians. To prove that I am the one misinforming the public, they should take journalists to the town to cross-check the fact” Zannah said.
Meanwhile, Bama has been under severe attack from Boko Haram following the capture and declaration of an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza. It was on reported that the sect members forceful conscript youths to fight against the Nigerian and Cameroonian army in the border areas as well as Gambouru town, where thousands have reportedly fled their homes to the north of neighbouring Cameroon. On Monday September 1, 2014, the  Nigerian Army reinforced the troops deployed to Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States, with over 30 armoured tanks to crush the dreaded terrorist group. The terrorist group while trying to advance its territory carried out an early morning raid on Bama, but unfortunately met a strong resistance from the military who foiled their plan and stopped them from entering Maidugri, Borno State state capital.
