A 29-year-old Saheed Badmus, who recently graduated from Ekiti State Polytechnic, was stabbed to death on Wednesday by a barber identified as Yemi at viewing centre in Lagos during the UEFA Champions League semi-final match between Chelsea Football Club and Atletico Madrid.
According to report, at a viewing centre on Lamina Street, Egbe area of the state, while the match was going on, Saheed stood up and Yemi started shouting at him to sit down as he was obstructing his view and preventing him from seeing the match.
Yemi was then cautioned by an elderly man to stop shouting and he started insulting the man.
A friend of the deceased, Muyideen Waheed said Saheed cautioned the barber to stop insulting an elderly man and an argument ensued. The owner of the viewing centre then pushed the arguing duo outside and locked them out.
It was gathered from eyewitnesses that as they got outside, Yemi picked up a bottle and stabbed Saheed. As if that was not enough, he chased after Saheed who was running for his life and stabbed him again in the face.
When some of the viewers came out, they saw Saheed lying in a pool of blood and he was rushed to Obeeh Hospital and Bisalam Hospital but they rejected him. He was referred to Igando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After the incident, Yemi was said to have fled to his father’s house who alerted the police and he was arrested by policemen from the Ikotun Police Division.
He was described by his father as a troublemaker and residents also said he was a violent man who had on several occasions attacked youths in the area.
Meanwhile, another person, identified as Destiny Ameh, also reportedly lost his life at another viewing centre in the Badagry area of the state as he was struck in the head with a sharp object while celebrating a goal.
He was rushed to Victoria Private Hospital where he was confirmed dead and the owner of the viewing centre has been arrested.
