Security Guard Arraigned For Stealing 18 Inverter Batteries Values At 1.4M In Lagos

  A 40-year-old security guard, Toyeeb Agbaje, who allegedly stole 18 inverter batteries valued at N1.4m, was on Monday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.
Punch reports that the accused, who lives at Oguntayo Estate, Eputu, Lagos State, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Chidi Okoye, told the court that the offences were committed on Sept. 27 at Eputu in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused with others still at large broke into the premises where an Etisalat mast was erected and carted away 18 inverter batteries worth N1.4m.
He said, “The accused were trailed and later apprehended while others escaped.”
Okoye said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Oct. 27 for mention.
